In September we are pleased to feature the work of two of our favorite artists from the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Ann Hayden and Maurice Spector are inspired by the simple things that influence the way they live in the Chesapeake Bay region. Instead of representational landscapes one may expect, the show features simple images such as birds and wood forms. Ann likes the sculptural and interactive quality of birds that influence her feelings. Her paintings are mostly large with simple images and often they include subtle messages. Similarly Maurice’s sculptures are simple forms but his ink and watercolor paintings are very detailed. As with their past features, Ann and Maurice will make you think “outside the box” with a smile.
Opening Reception for Maureen Farrell & Angela Herbert-Hodges
June Feature Artists – Maureen Farrell & Angela Herbert-Hodges
Bishop’s Stock is switching gears in June with a mixed media feature. Maureen Farrell and Angela Herbert-Hodges have shown here at different times but the way they use mixed media made it compelling to show their work together. Both artists achieve a level of expression using different images, media and found objects to relate emotion about subjects and experiences. They both make it clear that many aspects of their paintings “just happen” since they both use various watermedia. Check both of their websites – Maureen Farrell and Angela Herbert-Hodges – to learn more about their work and their artistic journeys. Their show opens on Friday, June 1 with an Opening Reception from 5 until 8 when we will be tasting Washington State wines.
Opening Reception for Lynne Lockhart & Kirk McBride
Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride filled the gallery with new work each April. They show images from their travels and from everyday walks on the beach. This provides a great opportunity to see the largest selection these talented artists show in one space. Come visit at the reception to hear about their travels to Cuba and Texas.
Opening Reception – New Work by Gallery Artists
March Feature – New Work by Gallery Artists
March is a month that makes the change of season a reality. Daylight Savings Time returns March 11 and the Vernal Equinox on March 20 lets us welcome Spring. At Bishop’s Stock our March show reveals what gallery artists have created during winter hibernation. Themes in their new work range from unique still life subjects to interesting travel destinations. The landscape shown below, Bunatrahir Bay Study, is by Christie Taylor done during her 5 week fellowship in Ballycastle, Mayo County, Ireland. Other artists – Petra Bernstein, Scot Dolby, Lois Engberg, Linda Epstein, Jim Rehak, Fred Sprock, Nancy Richards West – will be showing with Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride offering a sneak peak of their April show. Erick Sahler will be here for the opening with his work. Rule #1 (No Ketchup) is a new take on Thrashers French Fries.

Opening Reception for Kathryn and Lois Engberg
November Featured Artists – Lois & Kathryn Engberg
Many of our patrons will remember the first time we showed Katie Engberg along with her mother, Lois, and her grandmother, Barbara Beauchamp in 2013. Katie was then in her second year at Grand Central Academy in New York. Since graduating in 2016 she is now an instructor at this renown atelier school continuing to teach the classical traditions she learned under her mentor, Jacob Collins. In November Katie and Lois will be featured once again. This fall they returned from a stay in Lucca, Italy where Katie taught two drawing workshops and Lois enjoyed painting the beauty of the area.
This show will reinforce the influence art has on both mother and daughter. Katie will show her development as a talented figure artist and Lois will offer images from her stay in Italy along with her classic still life paintings.
