March Feature – New Work by Gallery Artists

March is a month that makes the change of season a reality. Daylight Savings Time returns March 11 and the Vernal Equinox on March 20 lets us welcome Spring. At Bishop’s Stock our March show reveals what gallery artists have created during winter hibernation. Themes in their new work range from unique still life subjects to interesting travel destinations. The landscape shown below, Bunatrahir Bay Study, is by Christie Taylor done during her 5 week fellowship in Ballycastle, Mayo County, Ireland. Other artists – Petra Bernstein, Scot Dolby, Lois Engberg, Linda Epstein, Jim Rehak, Fred Sprock, Nancy Richards West – will be showing with Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride offering a sneak peak of their April show. Erick Sahler will be here for the opening with his work. Rule #1 (No Ketchup) is a new take on Thrashers French Fries.

7th Annual Studio Sweep Sale Continues

During January our customers can still find great artwork at wonderful prices. Bishop’s Stock’s artists have cleaned out their studios to offer art lovers a chance to add to their collections at great savings. For the artists this gives a chance to sell older work, the last of a series or paintings that just need to go! For those who appreciate local talent this means a great selection of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels – large and small. Most work is unframed but there is a small selection of paintings ready to hang plus a few frames to purchase.  The sale continues through the month so there is plenty of time to leisurely search for that perfect find. During this time newer work by gallery artists is also displayed but not at reduced prices.

Featured Artist in November – Scot Dolby

November is the month Bishop’s Stock celebrates the beginning of a new year on Green Street. It is hard to believe we have been open 13 years and have staged 140 shows and 13 Paint Snow Hill events. Some things have changed. Doug Fisher is our resident artist two days a week and our shelves now stock wine instead of fine craft. What hasn’t changed is the amazing talent we  represent. Our November featured artist has been showing with us from Day 1. Scot Dolby was at that time a favorite teacher for Snow Hill students with many coming to see his work. Fast forward and Scot (and his wife Jean) are retired, enjoying being near their daughters and not being “retiring” at all. Scot’s work is known to fall into two categories – vast landscapes (local and some far away) and fish (a fly fisherman’s dream.) Scot also has a number of collectors of his mixed media paintings on cigar box tops.
