Fine Art, Craft & Wine
Maurice Sevigny, July’s featured artist will be in the gallery for the opening of his show. He will show new acrylic and mixed media paintings and fresh jewelry designs.
To bring summer colors to Bishop’s Stock we are featuring paintings and jewelry by Maurice Sevigny in July. Maurice is retired from his distinguished career in fine arts education (The University of Arizona, University of Texas at Austin, Bowling Green University and Western Kentucky University) but retirement has given him more time to maintain his active visual arts and jewelry studios in both Tucson, Arizona (November to June) and at his summer/fall residence in Salisbury. Travel inspires his work. He is known for his very colorful mixed media adaptations of figurative and landscape images. His art inspires his “one-of-a-kind” jewelry designs that mix beading materials from multiple cultures. At the opening on July 6, Maurice will have a lovely selection of his unique designs as he will on Saturday, July 21 as our Artist-in-Residence. Our First Friday reception is from 5 until 8 with tastings of wine from South Africa. Check Maurice’s website to find out more about his work in fine arts.
Surrounded by Angela’s recent show you will be working on developing surface variations.
If you have not collaged, we will be gluing different papers on paper & canvas and exploring the difference that happens by adding them to your paintings. We will use several techniques to arrive at finished work by the end of the lesson.
This workshop is for beginners, as well as others who already have developed work. Call Bishop’s Stock to register or contact Angela at [email protected]. or call Bishop’s Stock at 410-632-3555.
Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride filled the gallery with new work each April. They show images from their travels and from everyday walks on the beach. This provides a great opportunity to see the largest selection these talented artists show in one space. Come visit at the reception to hear about their travels to Cuba and Texas.
April is “Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride Month” at Bishop’s Stock. There is no better way to welcome the change of season than paintings coming out of Lynne’s and Kirk’s studios. Their show always features scenes from their travels which recently included Cuba and Texas. Lynne is also showing a selection of Assateague ponies, farm and woodland animals. Kirk takes our patrons to New York and Havana finding classic cars in his travels. View the paintings on www.facebook.com/BishopsStock. The opening reception is Friday, April 6 from 5 until 8 when we will be tasting California wines.
Pastel Artist, Stan Sperlak, will be featured in the front gallery at Bishop’s Stock during December and January.
Marshes and beaches along the Atlantic coast consistently appear in Stan’s pastels. In this show he uses both brilliant and tonal saturated color for both plein air and studio paintings. Stan captures the pureness of nature’s color values by layering intensely pigmented pastels. He achieves texture from both the paper he selects and the way he uses the pastels. You see movement of the wind in short energetic strokes. Tranquility of the ocean you see in long horizontal bands of color. The atmospheric relationship between land or sea and sky is predominant in all of Stan’s work. Undoubtedly, Stan’s pastels clearly represent his emotional connection to the beauty of this region. Everyday Stan lives his love of the outdoors through his painting, a busy landscape business in Cape May Court House, NJ and life on Crow Creek Farm. As a master teacher, Stan shares his artistic vision and skills in workshops all over the world.
Mother and daughter, Lois and Kathryn Engberg, are November’s featured artists. Come join us in sharing the talents of this creative family.
Our feature for October is representational landscape paintings by Carroll Klingelhofer. Stop by and meet the artist and talk about the inspiration for his work.
Bishop’s Stock is often a place that draws artists as they visit the area. Several years ago Carroll Klingelhofer stopped by with the hope of meeting my husband. You see, they are both graduates of Washington & Lee University and fraternity brothers with just a few years between their time in Lexington, Virginia. Introduction made then our conversation moved to Carroll’s work as a representational painter. Shortly after this visit Carroll returned with paintings for us to display and we started talking about a featured show. That show will open on October 6. Included in the show will be landscapes from throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Carroll is a practicing attorney, but he finds himself at his easel almost everyday. His profession does not limit his commitment and time devoted to study, visits to museums and shows, talking with other artists and taking workshops. This is how he has become a quality artist with a talent for capturing the realism nature offers. The show includes changes of season and nocturnal settings.
When November arrives, days fly by with seasonal activities and special family times filling our schedules. The colors of fall seem to set the stage for Thanksgiving and make this truly the prettiest time of year. … Read More...
