This month Hunter Nesbitt will greet you at the gallery. His work is very minimal landscapes done in pastel and oil.
Stop by and visit with our OCtober featured artist, Hunter Nesbitt. He will be here to talk about this minimalist drawings and paintings from 11 to 6.
Come meet Hunter Nesbitt and see his “Abstractions from Nature,” minimalist drawing and paintings in pastel and oil. We will be tasting Oregon’s Wildewood Wine Compay wines. Acoustic music by Po Tolo.
When we opened the gallery in November 2003 we met new artists when they stopped by to see our space and our gallery approach. Hunter Nesbitt was an early visitor for whom we planned a show in June 2004. At that time Nesbitt was focused on abstracted representations of marsh grasses in winter and wave patterns in water and clouds all done in pastel on heavy archival paper. After reconnecting with Nesbitt this year we decided to show his latest work – Abstractions from Nature – that includes pastels but also oils on canvas. Nesbitt’s work continues to be subtle, minimal and serene.
Each December Bishop’s Stock’s artists clean out their studios to offer art lovers a chance to add to their collections or find the perfect gift at great savings. For the artists this gives a chance to sell older work, the last of a series or paintings that just need to go! For those who appreciate local talent this means a great selection of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels. Most work is unframed but there is a small selection of paintings ready to hang plus frames to purchase. This year ceramics and jewelry are included. The sale continues through December and January so there is plenty of time to leisurely search for that perfect find. During this time newer work by gallery artists is also displayed but not at reduced prices.
Bishop’s Stock is turning “10” in November! To celebrate we are showing new work by Stan Sperlak. Stan is one of the amazing artists we have come to know and represent through the gallery since 2003. I met him during the first Paint Snow Hill and from then on he has made the trip from Cape May Court House many times bringing us his pastels full of intense color and beautiful light. Since his last show Stan has completed his dream of having a beautiful space for workshops and special events. Crow Creek Farm ties farmland, forest and marsh into an inspirational setting for Stan, his students and his friends. More information about Stan and his workshops are on his website www.stansperlak.com.
The artists in this exhibition are the six charter members of the group “6 Artists,” which was formed in March of 2012, and since then they have developed a strong voice and presence through approximately four shows annually, in such places as the Annapolis Maritime Museum, Quiet Waters Park, West Annapolis Artworks & Fine Framing, River Gallery, and Maryland Federation of Art’s Circle Gallery.
6 Artists is a professional group, with the goal of creating awareness of their individual art, and building momentum to enhance the recognition of art in our community. The group consists of four painters – Phyllis Dixon, Patrice Drago, Gail Higginbotham and Desiree Holmes Scherini, and two photographers, Frances Borchardt and Carol Donahue. Their individual styles complement each other’s work, creating a balanced and cohesive body or work, regardless of the theme. Each artist is accomplished in her own right, with recognition in local, state and national juried exhibitions.
Celebrate America looks to the roots of America, fostering a greater sense and understanding of American communities, family pastimes and what it means to be an American. Through a collection of images that depict some of America’s most beloved customs and national symbols to displaying vibrant rural America scenes the Annapolis 6 will “Celebrate America” with beautiful renderings.
Once a year Bishop’s Stock likes to focus on the diverse talents of the gallery’s artists. It seemed timely to welcome spring with this show in March. Among the artists showing are John Cleary, Denise Dumont, Scot Dolby, Helene English, Lynne Lockhart, Kirk McBride, Carole Boggemann Pierson, Jim Rehak, Stan Sperlak and Nancy West. This exhibit mixes representational and contemporary work in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and mixed media. The show opens on March 1 and closes April 2.
