July Featured Artist – Mary Pritchard

Our featured artist in July is Mary Pritchard who came to us through Paint Snow Hill over 10 years ago. Many will recall Mary’s beautiful pastels of landscapes and farm buildings. Her plein air paintings are truly small studies she then uses for larger studio paintings. In this show Free Boat is from a Snow Hill study done a few years ago.  Other paintings in the show are the result of Mary’s journeys away from her home in Chestertown. They are inspired by  fields and streams of the Eastern Shore, Maine’s rocks and waves, and barns and rivers of Nova Scotia. To learn more about her current work check MaryPritchardArt.

May Featured Artists – Meg Walsh & Paint Snow Hill 2017 Artists

April showers stayed away for Paint Snow Hill 2017 and spring was in full swing. The artists were very productive with many creating more than 4 paintings making the “Wet Paint” Show and Sale one of the best yet. In May Bishop’s Stock will once again show a selection of paintings the artists left with us. The May show will also feature work by Meg Walsh, an Easton resident and one of our Paint Snow Hill veterans. Meg is known for landscapes drenched in light and color and she is equally at home painting “en plein air” or in the studio. Though realistic in nature, her paintings have a strong abstract element, characterized by simplified shapes, limited values, and glowing color.  Her work has been purchased by a number of institutions and private collectors in the Mid-Atlantic region and she belongs to the 40-member Washington Society of Landscape Painters, the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, and the Salmagundi Club in New York. Her paintings are featured in the book 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic.

April Featured Artists – Lynne Lockhart & Kirk McBride

April is one of our favorite months at Bishop’s Stock with spring colors, warmer days and best of all, new work by Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride.  While we feature Lockhart’s and McBride’s work all year, this is when patrons get to see an extensive show of their latest paintings. The work in the show includes Lynne’s wonderful animals in their natural setting and Kirk’s city and small town architecture, landscapes, and working boats. As our patrons know Lockhart captures animal behaviors and attitudes wherever she catches her subjects. McBride is known for his expertise in using light and shadows to capture atmospheric influences on his subjects. Two of Lockhart’s paintings in the show have been submitted to the Society of Animal Artists for their annual show that tours the country. She is a Signature Member of this international organization. McBride is a Signature Member of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters and also a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists. All paintings in the show may be viewed in albums at http://www.facebook/BishopsStock.

Studio Sweep Sale Continues

7th Annual Studio Sweep Sale Continues

During January our customers can still find great artwork at wonderful prices. Bishop’s Stock’s artists have cleaned out their studios to offer art lovers a chance to add to their collections at great savings. For the artists this gives a chance to sell older work, the last of a series or paintings that just need to go! For those who appreciate local talent this means a great selection of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels – large and small. Most work is unframed but there is a small selection of paintings ready to hang plus a few frames to purchase.  The sale continues through the month so there is plenty of time to leisurely search for that perfect find. During this time newer work by gallery artists is also displayed but not at reduced prices.
