November Featured Artists – Lois & Kathryn Engberg

Many of our patrons will remember the first time we showed Katie Engberg along with her mother, Lois, and her grandmother, Barbara Beauchamp in 2013. Katie was then in her second year at Grand Central Academy in New York. Since graduating in 2016 she is now an instructor at this renown atelier school continuing to teach the classical traditions she learned under her mentor, Jacob Collins. In November Katie and Lois will be featured once again. This fall they returned from a stay in Lucca, Italy where Katie taught two drawing workshops and Lois enjoyed painting the beauty of the area.

This show will reinforce the influence art has on both mother and daughter. Katie will show her development as a talented figure artist and Lois will offer images from her stay in Italy along with her classic still life paintings.

Opening Reception for Christie Taylor and Fred Sprock

Come visit with Christie Taylor and Fred Sprock as we open what we hope will be an annual show for them.

Opening Reception for Barb Mowery and Carole Boggemann Peirson

Featured artists in August are Barb Mowery and Carole Boggemann Peirson. Both are plein air and studio artists who will have a wonderful show of their contrasting work.

August Featured Artists – Barb Mowery & Carole Boggemann Peirson

In August we will be showing the work of 2 wonderful artists whose work we first discovered through Paint Snow Hill. Barbara Mowery was once a Worcester County resident but she now lives in Lusby in Southern Maryland and Carole Boggemann Peirson lives in Townsend on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We like the idea of having talented artists from both sides of the Chesapeake showing their unique painting styles and different influences.

Mowery is calling her work in the show Close to Home.   With 2 little girls and a busy life she took advantage of imagery near her home to create a series of suburban landscape paintings. With her contemporary style she calls these paintings a “welcome to her world.” To give a sense of her neighborhood Barb actually created a coloring sheet for children (and adults with time on their hands) to unleash their own talent.  To find out more about Mowery’s work check Barb Mowery Art on Facebook.

Peirson is showing a selection of her landscapes that focus on capturing changing light. For the show she calls this Chasing the Light to show how light becomes a focal point in both plein air studies and studio work.  Living on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and traveling in the Mid-Atlantic area offers wonderful imagery for Peirson to capture with changing light and atmosphere. Learn more about Peirson on her website.

Opening Reception for Mary Pritchard

Chestertown pastel artist, Mary Pritchard, is being featured in July. She will be in the gallery during First Friday hours.

April Featured Artists – Lynne Lockhart & Kirk McBride

April is one of our favorite months at Bishop’s Stock with spring colors, warmer days and best of all, new work by Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride.  While we feature Lockhart’s and McBride’s work all year, this is when patrons get to see an extensive show of their latest paintings. The work in the show includes Lynne’s wonderful animals in their natural setting and Kirk’s city and small town architecture, landscapes, and working boats. As our patrons know Lockhart captures animal behaviors and attitudes wherever she catches her subjects. McBride is known for his expertise in using light and shadows to capture atmospheric influences on his subjects. Two of Lockhart’s paintings in the show have been submitted to the Society of Animal Artists for their annual show that tours the country. She is a Signature Member of this international organization. McBride is a Signature Member of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters and also a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists. All paintings in the show may be viewed in albums at http://www.facebook/BishopsStock.

March Featured Artists – A Group Show by Gallery Artists

Welcome Spring with New Work by Gallery Artists

As spring begins to visit us with 60 degree temperatures, budding trees and blooming daffodils, we ask our gallery artists to show work that is just coming out of their “winter” studio time. A group show is the best way to catch up with new work so our March feature is a selection of work by Erick Sahler, Scot Dolby, Lois Engberg, Linda Epstein, Angela Herbert-Hodges, Nancy Mysak, Carole Boggeman Peirson, Jim Rehak, Fred Sprock, Christie Taylor and Nancy West.
