Gary Pendleton to be Featured

During May Bishop’s Stock will celebrate plein air painting with work by Gary Pendleton from North Beach in Southern Maryland. Gary is the Past President of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and the author of 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic, published in 2014 by Schiffer books. As a native Marylander he finds inspiration in every corner of the state, from the Chesapeake Bay to Appalachian Mountains and beyond. Whenever possible, he takes his easel out to paint in the towns, cities and natural areas. The regular practice of painting from life, “en plein air,” allows him to create the feeling of light and atmosphere in his paintings. His love of plein air painting also lead him to research and write about regional artists who share his interest.

100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlanticis a beautiful catalog of regional paintings. It is packed with over 400 color reproductions of work by some of today’s finest landscape artists, including Kirk McBride, Lynn Lockhart, David Diaz, Stan Sperlak, Carole Boggemann Pierson and Leslie Belloso. The book not only documents the contemporary art scene, it includes a concise history of landscape painting in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.

Additionally the show will include Paint Snow Hill plein air paintings by a number of the artists included in the book – Lynne Lockhart, Kirk McBride, Nancy West, Meg Walsh, Lynne Mehta, David Diaz, Laura Howell, Mary Pritchard, Claudia Brookes and Desiree Holmes Scherini.

Paint Snow Hill & Deborah Rolig

Bishop’s Stock is pleased to offer new work by Deborah Rolig and a selection of paintings from April’s 2013 Paint Snow Hill. Rolig has been May’s featured artist for 6 years. Her studio time was interrupted by her husband’s illness. She is now returning to the gallery with a limited amount of new work. We are thrilled to have her back in her studio and are very pleased to show what she has been doing.

April’s Paint Snow Hill 2013 was a great success with 70 artists creating over 300 paintings. The gallery will be showing a selection of that work by 15 artists. This is plein air painting at it’s best. The painting shown is by Diane Hurwitz-Specht. It was awarded the 10th Anniversary Award judged by Christie Taylor, Hodges-Taylor Art Consultancy, Charlotte, NC. If you missed the “wet paint” show and the chance to see the work created a 3 day period this exhibit will give an idea of the wonderful diversity the participating artists bring to Paint Snow Hill.

New Work by Lynne Lockhart & Kirk McBride Featured in April

Bishop’s Stock will open the spring season with the annual exhibit of new work by Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride, two of the area’s most recognized artists. The upcoming show includes studies and studio paintings by both artists. Lockhart has included classic small animal and bird studies in the show. McBride’s work  includes a series of harbor boats from up and down the East Coast and iconic trucks from a trip to Sedona.

Lockhart is known for her images of animals in their natural surroundings as well as her animal portraits. She is an adventurous painter whose style ranges from surreal and illustrative to semi-impressionistic. Her work has an expressive quality of simplicity and freshness with great balance between light and realism.  She “reads” her subjects capturing them in their natural environment as well as in imaginary situations.

McBride is constantly looking for moments to inspire his oil paintings. His work is inspired by his daily experiences and his travels. McBride is known for using light and shadow to create a unifying theme in his paintings. He successfully creates a mood and a sense of time and place whether the subjects are seascapes or mountains, city scenes or interior spaces.

Both artists will be participating for the tenth year in Paint Snow Hill April 19-21. McBride will be teaching a plein air workshop April 17 & 18.
