June Featured Artist – Andrea Baldeck, Fine Art Photographer

For Bishop’s Stock June means exhibiting the fine art photography of Andrea Baldeck. Our intent has never been to ignore photography as a visual art. The challenge has been to find a visual artist whose photographs capture the aesthetics of subjects in a creative not literal way using light and depth of field just as an artist creates a painting focusing on compositon and narrative using light and depth of field. Photographers and painters reach similar visual goals fundamentally different in execution. Baldeck brings an opportunity to experience this visual medium.

In the early 1990’s Baldeck was drawn to photography after leaving her profession as an anethesiologist. Her portfolio of black and white photographs includes portraiture, still life, landscapes and photographic essays which have been published in 8 books. She has created botanical essays and has documented different landscapes and communities. Her exhibit with us, “Tideland,” reflects her time spent at her home on Chincoteague Island.
