July Featured Artist – Mary Pritchard

Our featured artist in July is Mary Pritchard who came to us through Paint Snow Hill over 10 years ago. Many will recall Mary’s beautiful pastels of landscapes and farm buildings. Her plein air paintings are truly small studies she then uses for larger studio paintings. In this show Free Boat is from a Snow Hill study done a few years ago.  Other paintings in the show are the result of Mary’s journeys away from her home in Chestertown. They are inspired by  fields and streams of the Eastern Shore, Maine’s rocks and waves, and barns and rivers of Nova Scotia. To learn more about her current work check MaryPritchardArt.

Opening Reception for C. Keith Whitelock

Our featured artist in June is C. Keith Whitelock. Come visit with him and see his latest work.

June Featured Artist – C. Keith Whitelock

When June arrives we all seem to turn our thoughts to the water that surrounds us so it seems the perfect time to feature the work of  C. Keith Whitelock, a well-known marine artist.  This  Eastern Shore native captures working boats in the open bay, bay side marshes,  and waterfront docks. The fine details in Whitelock’s realistic images  are of a rapidly disappearing lifestyle of working boats, small villages and derelict structures. It is always exciting to see what part of the vanishing landscape he has found to paint. This year he has returned to oil and acrylic for a number of paintings.  The opening reception is Friday, June 2 from 5 until 8. Whitelock will also be our Artist-in-Residence on Saturday, June 17.

Opening Reception for Plein Air Exhibit Featuring Meg Walsh and Paint Snow Hill Artists

During May the gallery will exhibit paintings from Paint Snow Hill 2017 and plein air paintings by Meg Walsh.

May Featured Artists – Meg Walsh & Paint Snow Hill 2017 Artists

April showers stayed away for Paint Snow Hill 2017 and spring was in full swing. The artists were very productive with many creating more than 4 paintings making the “Wet Paint” Show and Sale one of the best yet. In May Bishop’s Stock will once again show a selection of paintings the artists left with us. The May show will also feature work by Meg Walsh, an Easton resident and one of our Paint Snow Hill veterans. Meg is known for landscapes drenched in light and color and she is equally at home painting “en plein air” or in the studio. Though realistic in nature, her paintings have a strong abstract element, characterized by simplified shapes, limited values, and glowing color.  Her work has been purchased by a number of institutions and private collectors in the Mid-Atlantic region and she belongs to the 40-member Washington Society of Landscape Painters, the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, and the Salmagundi Club in New York. Her paintings are featured in the book 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic.

Opening Reception for Lynne Lockhart & Kirk McBride

Our annual show of new work by Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride includes the latest work being painted in their new studios.

April Featured Artists – Lynne Lockhart & Kirk McBride

April is one of our favorite months at Bishop’s Stock with spring colors, warmer days and best of all, new work by Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride.  While we feature Lockhart’s and McBride’s work all year, this is when patrons get to see an extensive show of their latest paintings. The work in the show includes Lynne’s wonderful animals in their natural setting and Kirk’s city and small town architecture, landscapes, and working boats. As our patrons know Lockhart captures animal behaviors and attitudes wherever she catches her subjects. McBride is known for his expertise in using light and shadows to capture atmospheric influences on his subjects. Two of Lockhart’s paintings in the show have been submitted to the Society of Animal Artists for their annual show that tours the country. She is a Signature Member of this international organization. McBride is a Signature Member of the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters and also a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists. All paintings in the show may be viewed in albums at http://www.facebook/BishopsStock.

March Featured Artists – A Group Show by Gallery Artists

Welcome Spring with New Work by Gallery Artists

As spring begins to visit us with 60 degree temperatures, budding trees and blooming daffodils, we ask our gallery artists to show work that is just coming out of their “winter” studio time. A group show is the best way to catch up with new work so our March feature is a selection of work by Erick Sahler, Scot Dolby, Lois Engberg, Linda Epstein, Angela Herbert-Hodges, Nancy Mysak, Carole Boggeman Peirson, Jim Rehak, Fred Sprock, Christie Taylor and Nancy West.
