Featured Artist in November – C. Keith Whitelock

To start our 17th year
Bishop’s Stock will feature the work of C. Keith Whitelock in November.
As a native of Somerset County, Whitelock never tires of Eastern Shore
landscapes and his commitment to preserving the area’s culture. Those who know
his work know his favorite subjects are the weathered working boats and
decaying derelicts that so often accent the surrounding marsh and harbors.
Working in watercolors, oils, and occasionally acrylics, Whitelock’s attention
to detail presents a realistic image of a rapidly disappearing lifestyle. His
paintings always have a story that he enjoys sharing

Opening Reception for Beverly Perdue

Come meet Beverly Perdue AWS TWSA to hear about the commission she completed for the Franklin Perdue Museum at SSU. Her show, Oil and Water, features paintings from her travels

August Featured Artist – Beverly Perdue AWS TWSA

Our featured artist for August is Beverly Perdue AWS, TWSA, a native of Salisbury who now lives in suburban Richmond, Virginia . Over the years Beverly has been a regular visitor to Bishop’s Stock while her mother, Madeline Perdue was still alive. Mrs. Perdue grew up on a farm outside of Snow Hill and was a contemporary of many in the Snow Hill area. She liked to “catch up” by visiting the gallery. These visits were always enjoyable but they also made me aware of Beverly’s artistic talent. She has shown with us before but now as our featured artist we will see a cross section of her work in watercolor and oil. Beverly is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America and she now works in oil to expand her growth as an artist. In this show titled Oil and Water Beverly will debut a recent oil painting she created of her Grandmother, Pearl Perdue standing in front of a chicken house she helped build in 1920. This iconic scene, created from an old photograph, represents the beginning of Perdue Farms and will be installed in the Franklin Perdue Museum at the Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University in 2020.

Opening Reception for C. Keith Whitelock

Our featured artist in June is C. Keith Whitelock. Come visit with him and see his latest work.

June Featured Artist – C. Keith Whitelock

When June arrives we all seem to turn our thoughts to the water that surrounds us so it seems the perfect time to feature the work of  C. Keith Whitelock, a well-known marine artist.  This  Eastern Shore native captures working boats in the open bay, bay side marshes,  and waterfront docks. The fine details in Whitelock’s realistic images  are of a rapidly disappearing lifestyle of working boats, small villages and derelict structures. It is always exciting to see what part of the vanishing landscape he has found to paint. This year he has returned to oil and acrylic for a number of paintings.  The opening reception is Friday, June 2 from 5 until 8. Whitelock will also be our Artist-in-Residence on Saturday, June 17.

Opening Reception & Wine Tasting for Gallery Artists Group Show

Our March feature of a group show by gallery artists will open with Erick Sahler as a featured guest. Sposato Family Vineyard wines will be offered for tasting.

Studio Sweep Sale Continues

sss-2016

7th Annual Studio Sweep Sale Continues

During January our customers can still find great artwork at wonderful prices. Bishop’s Stock’s artists have cleaned out their studios to offer art lovers a chance to add to their collections at great savings. For the artists this gives a chance to sell older work, the last of a series or paintings that just need to go! For those who appreciate local talent this means a great selection of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels – large and small. Most work is unframed but there is a small selection of paintings ready to hang plus a few frames to purchase.  The sale continues through the month so there is plenty of time to leisurely search for that perfect find. During this time newer work by gallery artists is also displayed but not at reduced prices.

Featured in July – Reflections on Water by Nancy Richards West

July 16-1 36x48

There is no better month than July to show the work of Nancy Richards West whose local seascapes and imagery say “Eastern Shore summer.” Nancy, a long time resident of Chincoteague, grew up in Western Pennsylvania in a creative family with art always a part of her life. Her passion for drawing and painting is reflected in her figurative work, wildlife art and plein air landscapes. In this show, Reflections on Water, Nancy has one of the largest paintings she has completed in her studio. Big Wave (36’x48′) is an amazing example of how Nancy “reads” the motion and energy of the breaking surf. Also included in the show are Sumi-e paintings which are done in the traditional Chinese brush stroke technique. Check Nancy West for Nancy’s background and artist statement.
