Featured in July – Reflections on Water by Nancy Richards West

July 16-1 36x48

There is no better month than July to show the work of Nancy Richards West whose local seascapes and imagery say “Eastern Shore summer.” Nancy, a long time resident of Chincoteague, grew up in Western Pennsylvania in a creative family with art always a part of her life. Her passion for drawing and painting is reflected in her figurative work, wildlife art and plein air landscapes. In this show, Reflections on Water, Nancy has one of the largest paintings she has completed in her studio. Big Wave (36’x48′) is an amazing example of how Nancy “reads” the motion and energy of the breaking surf. Also included in the show are Sumi-e paintings which are done in the traditional Chinese brush stroke technique. Check Nancy West for Nancy’s background and artist statement.

In June Bishop’s Stock will offer work by two noted area watercolorists, Nancy Mysak and C. Keith Whitelock. Both Mysak and Whitelock are natives of the Eastern Shore. They attribute their love of local landscapes as inspiration for their paintings. The love of the area and their technical skills have received recognition from their peers. Mysak is a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Whitelock was named a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists.

The exciting aspect of this show is the diversity in their painting styles and their range of skills as watercolorists. Viewers will gain an appreciation for a rapidly disappearing lifestyle by the fine details in Whitelock’s realistic images of working boats, small villages and derelict structures. Similarly,Mysak’s work with vibrant color and light tells a story. She sees her paintings as a means of journaling her feelings and experiences as an essential and joyous part of her life.

For those who appreciate local talent this means a great selection of oils, acrylics, watercolors and pastels. Most work is unframed but there is a small selection of paintings ready to hang plus frames to purchase. This year ceramics and jewelry are included. The sale continues through December and January so there is plenty of time to leisurely search for that perfect find. During this time newer work by gallery artists is also displayed but not at reduced prices.
