Marshes and beaches along the Atlantic coast consistently appear in Stan’s pastels. In this show he uses both brilliant and tonal saturated color for both plein air and studio paintings. Stan captures the pureness of nature’s color values by layering intensely pigmented pastels. He achieves texture from both the paper he selects and the way he uses the pastels. You see movement of the wind in short energetic strokes. Tranquility of the ocean you see in long horizontal bands of color. The atmospheric relationship between land or sea and sky is predominant in all of Stan’s work. Undoubtedly, Stan’s pastels clearly represent his emotional connection to the beauty of this region. Everyday Stan lives his love of the outdoors through his painting, a busy landscape business in Cape May Court House, NJ and life on Crow Creek Farm. As a master teacher, Stan shares his artistic vision and skills in workshops all over the world.

                                            Stan Sperlak

Stan Sperlak’s pastels return to Bishop’s Stock in November. Sperlak has had a busy year with his successful workshops but he still found time to for plein air and studio work. He has shown his pastels with us since 2006 and each body of his work has reflected the serenity of landscapes and the beauty of changing light. This show includes Over the Sea, a powerful horizontal series of four seascapes that capture the energy of waves breaking at water’s edge. Sperlak’s website has more of his work and the press he has received.

Celebrating 10th Anniversary                Featuring Stan Sperlak

Bishop’s Stock is turning “10” in November! To celebrate we are showing new work by Stan Sperlak. Stan is one of the amazing artists we have come to know and represent through the gallery since 2003. I met him during the first Paint Snow Hill and from then on he has made the trip from Cape May Court House many times bringing us his pastels full of intense color and beautiful light. Since his last show Stan has completed his dream of having a beautiful space for workshops and special events. Crow Creek Farm ties farmland, forest and marsh into an inspirational setting for Stan, his students and his friends. More information about Stan and his workshops are on his website www.stansperlak.com.
